It's time to register and start training for the 2014 Greenland Pines Reading Racers!

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much for your interest in joining the GPE Reading Racers triathlon team for 2014.  We have some information to pass along to you and if you have any questions please let me know.

1. If you are interested in taking advantage of the Y's FREE triathlon training program it will begin next week but you have to register for the triathlon first in order to participate in this free program.  There are various locations where you can participate in this training.  If you are not able to attend, do not worry, you can still get the training you need by participating in our training days or training on your own by simply getting into a routine of riding your bike and running weekly.  I have attached some information regarding the clinics and locations.

2.  The First Coast Kids Triathlon volunteers will be coming out to GPE to host an event on Saturday March 29th.  The PTA is holding a Health and Safety Fair on that day from 3-6pm  The triathlon volunteers will be running a continuous clinic that incorporates triathlon basics and transition within a fun PE setting.  We will also have a bike club out hosting a Bike Rodeo.  This will be a great opportunity to check your bike out for safety and your helmet and test your skills on a course.  Tell others about this event since there will be so much more to do than just those two things....JSO, JFRD, Red Cross, Safety First Jax, Century Ambulance, Masonic Child ID program, YMCA to name a few.

3.   If you haven't registered yet for the race please do so as soon as you can so you don't run the risk if it selling out.  You can register at http://www.firstcoastkidstriathlon.com/

4.  Make sure you get your kids out riding their bike over spring break and running some, especially when the weather is so nice like today.

If you are interested in meeting at the Cecil Aquatics center to practice swimming let me know and we will coordinate a day during spring break.  I don't want to set a day if no one is interested.

2014 Registration is now open

You can register for the 2014 race today at http://www.firstcoastkidstriathlon.com

When you register be sure and list your team as Greenland Pines Reading Racers and the race will donate $10 of your registration fee to the school.

We are working with the triathlon organization to host a 3 hour triathlon training event with former triathletes.  Our hope is the have this event on Saturday March 29th.  Once it has been confirmed by the organization and by our administration I will let you know.  No matter what we will at least have our own training that day if the organization can't come out so please mark that day on your calendar.  Our hope is to have it later in the afternoon so it will not interfere with sports activities that might be going on during the morning.

We would like to offer training at the school on Saturday Mar 8th from 4-530 and Sat Apr 12th from 330-5.  If the Saturdays don't work for you and you are in need of a Sunday time we can offer an optional Sunday training day on Mar 9th from 330-5 but I would need you to email me personally if you need this date.  You would arrive at GPE and park in the bus loading zone.  We will have the kids ride their bikes in the school parking lot.  It will be closed to vehicular traffic.  Bring bikes, helmets, running shoes and water.  More details and reminders will go out closer to the date.

We are working to confirm with administration to have a table at the Math and Science Festival on Thursday Mar 6th from 5-7.  If you are interested in helping with the table, bringing your child's bike up for display and/or having your child, if they raced last year, where their shirt (either one from the race) and talk with prospective racers please let me know.  As of now, I will probably not be able to be there for the whole event so I can use the help talking with parents and kids.
